The Wicked Lie: Q&A Session
You guys make us ridiculously happy. We want to try and return the favor. First suggested by indice on our last post, we therefore give you The Wicked Lie: Q&A Session!

Think of it as an open-query forum - any questions you may have, whether it be about our creative process - how we brainstorm, write, draw, and collaborate on the project - examinations on our characterization, affiliate requests - even our favorite flavor of ice cream! - we'll try our best to answer here! A fair warning: silly questions will provoke silly answers; spoilers won't be given out readily either, although it all depends on how you word the question. ;) So with that in mind, do ask away! We'd love to hear from you!

Well, since this is all Sin City inspired...

1.What are your guys' favorite Sin City characters from the movie?

2. And which one of the three major story lines did you like the best?
sky piratedecomposition on February 12th, 2007 05:28 am (UTC)
*waves at you* XD

1. Miho, because I'm attracted to anything wielding a sword as awesome as she does. And Dwight McCarthy, because he's the typical hunk with a level head who knows how to kick ass. I'm also a big Marv fan. :D

2. The Big Fat Kill! That story had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. And Jackie Boy, still talking with a slit throat? Oh fuck yeah. XD *gore buff*

I sent you a totally random text message last night through LJ.

Random samurai/ninja girls are awesome.

HI, okay:

1. MARV. Such eloquence! Such loyalty! Such love! Such...looks! 8D

2. THE BIG FAT KILL. Guns and tar pits and more guns and grenades and Irish mercenaries and well, Dwight and his Converse and an alleyway of hot prostitutes on the rooftops - with guns - and...yeah, what's not to love? ;X
Adrienne: Die x Kaoru [ saku ]decadentrebel on February 12th, 2007 06:33 am (UTC)
1) MARV MARV MARV MARV MARV. Anyone who could describe obsession in such a poetic and endearing way can easily steal my heart. ;)

2. Definitely 'The Big Fat Kill', because Miho was fun to watch, it had a lot of memorable lines and passages, and I loved how fast-paced it was. :)
molivmoliv on February 20th, 2007 08:24 am (UTC)
1. Marv! (for all the reasons already stated)
2. The Big Fat Kill definatelly!

(yes I know late entry - my LJ did not post the reply and didn't tell me about it...go figure)

It surprisingly took me a moment to catch the reference. >.>

Yes, he's a redhaired ubernerd with blinding glasses and he eats women.

But no seriously. XD Die won't be a cannibal, he's more like an uberwhore than an ubernerd who uses his mouth in ways that don't include eating.

The art is absolutely awesome. How did you guys contribute and decide on how the characters should look? How did you guys come up the gun names? And who are your most loved Jrockers?
sky pirate: れいた ; time turned fragile.decomposition on February 12th, 2007 09:36 am (UTC)
We all kind of contribute more or less on specific characters. Like, I specifically covered mostly what Reita and Ruki look like, and my fellow collaborators designed Die's outfit themselves and also worked on how Kaoru should look, but we'll usually get together and all discuss how the characters should act and look. Some details are left up to our head artist's imagination as well, though, so there's really contribution from all four sides. If that made any sense. XD *up late and not very coherent*

Regarding guns, well, civilized_era and I (in all our nerdy glory) actually looked up a lot of info on guns, and picked out brands and specific models that we thought would suit each character and their personality.

And my most loved Jrockers are actually the four main characters of The Wicked Lie (Kaoru, Die, Reita, & Ruki), but if I have to choose like, TOP loved of them, it's definitely Reita and Kaoru.
Amlove_from_am on February 12th, 2007 10:05 am (UTC)
The guns are actual brands and models? O_o OMG. You guys have really put a LOT of effort into this. *Hands out a Kaoru plushie* I want Reita's gun! *Waves a Reita plushie as bribe.*
sky piratedecomposition on February 12th, 2007 10:27 am (UTC)
Yep, they're all real guns. XD

Reita's gun is incredibly cool, it's Italian. 8D It's also very pricey and hard to get (well it was in the era of Sin City), but Reita is character who can easily get things like that. ;)
molivmoliv on February 12th, 2007 11:19 pm (UTC)
(back to what viral_imput said) we all contributed to the character's designs. All of us had an idea of what Die, Kaoru, Ruki, Miho etc. would look like and (to me) putting those ideas together into one drawing was extremelly hard. Ex: I flipped out about Ruki's portrait (viral_input can tell you) and how he didn't look 'right' and I was really worried that she wouldn't like him and that he wasn't going to look like how we imagined him, in the end he turned out ok..XD go figure. Does that anwer your question? (because I feel like I beat around the bush)
beloved Jrockers: Die and Kaoru definatelly - I mean I love them all but Die and Kaoru stand out for me.

I have a question concerning the character ^^'
who is Jay Kim? (because when I serach on google (ok I not search long time ^^''') I found old politic men and movie maker who didn't look like the man on the pic you post ^^''''')

but anyway, this character map is cool ^o^ the draw are love *o*
Adrienne: choir boy/angel die ;Ddecadentrebel on February 12th, 2007 10:11 am (UTC)
From my knowledge, Jay Kim is part of a Korean rockband, Trax. He's also known as Typhoon. More info on the band here.

And LOL, old politic men?! XD You poor thing. I remember my frustration on searching for information on Gazette and getting nothing but newspaper matches. XD

Questions, questions...^_^
1) Reita as the Salesman. Oh.My.God. *_*

2) Will you be featuring the rest of the band of Gazette as characters as well?

3) The art is awesome and I am tres impressed. dk_sincity joins the prestigious list of the_grey_room and shoebox_project among the fanprojects that I find totally astounding. You ladies are awesome.

4) If I'm reading the character map correctly, is Miho Die's sister? If yes, HOMG.

5) Umm...can I know more about the significance of the red bracelets of Die and Kaoru? Everyone seems to know what it's about but I've watched and read Sin City more than once and I'm still confused. ;_;

6) Did I mention that you ladies are awesome?

Right, I think that covers everything. Again, you ladies ROCK. Can't wait for the next part! :D
sky pirate: れいた ; he's so damn beautiful.decomposition on February 12th, 2007 09:06 pm (UTC)
Re: Questions, questions...^_^

2) And yes, all of Gazette will be featured! Though their appearances varies. Some (Reita and Ruki in particular) you'll see more frequent than the others because of their significant symbolism.

3) Thank you so much! The perfectionists in us set high standards for ourselves, so there's a lot of effort put into this project. We're totally psyched that everyone enjoys it as much as we do. :D

4) I'll let my fellow collaborators answer this, since I don't discuss Miho as much as they do. XD

5) Well the red bracelets aren't so much a significance in Sin City, but more from Chinese myths and legends. The red bracelets basically symbolize a very strong connection between two people, so you can take it as a hint of Die and Kaoru's closeness. I do believe you'll find out HOW Die and Kaoru get the red bracelets in Part Two. ;)

6) Did I mention YOU are awesome too? ♥

Thank you so much!

Re: Questions, questions...^_^
3. Bwah, thank you - very honored! :) (Just imagine having to work with these talented ladies, eh?! O_o I, for one, am constantly astounded and overwhelmed. T_T)

4. In fact, Miho is Die's cousin - I'm not sure why this is. Probably because we thought "sister" would be too predictable. Uh, somehow. >_> But nonetheless, keep an eye out for her! :D Indeed, we're having lots of fun with her character...I promise you'll find out why soon!

5. "In Chinese love stories, fate is the most important element. According to legend, marriages are predetermined, and when babies are born they are matched in heaven by tying their feet together with a red thread--this is yuanfen, or predestined affiliation. No matter how far apart they may be born on earth, they will be fated to meet. Yuanfen is a kind of hope, making romance practical so that you can live with your desire: if things don't work out in one life, there's still a chance in the next. Lovers fated to meet travel together through time and lives. In Hong Kong, women wear a piece of jade around their necks, not on a gold chain but on a skein of red silk. Both the jade and the silk are a sign of the gods' protection.

Lovers in one life may never run into each other, each feeling that something is missing. In another life they may meet, but not recognize each other until it's too late. Or they may recognize each other, but their position in life may not allow them to be together. The improbability of finding a fated match is so great that people try to even the odds by consulting the almanac. In traditional times, matches were approved only after the fortune-tellers calculated the birth dates of the prospective couple. The animal horoscopes were consulted too--maybe someone born in the year of the dog was a good match for someone born in the year of the tiger. Only occasionally do fated matches manage to find each other, and this life must be treasured to the last drop."

--CHINA CHIC by Vivienne Tam

Nowadays, it's kind of become our signature, since, you know, that *points above* is DxK. The red thread/bracelet/bands transcend heaven, earth, and hoh, even alternate universes! :D

6. Uh no, YOU ARE. \m/
